In October the Northern Lights put on a spectacular display across Leicestershire.

For several hours a celestial kaleidoscope played out across the autumn sky, from Bradgate Park to Lutterworth.

The lights, also known as aurora borealis, were visible throughout much of the UK. The aurora happens when charged particles are blasted out of the sun and collide with gases in the earth's atmosphere.

The phenomena brought out hundreds of photographers to capture the moment, helped by widespread clear skies.

Jane in Coalville and Joanna in Ellistown told 蜜芽传媒 Leicester's Ady Dayman why the amazing sights were worth staying up for.
