50th anniversary for the Heart of England Chorus
Leicestershire's Heart of England Chorus are celebrating their 50th anniversary.
The Leicester Club was formed in 1974 by Roy Phillips and three other singers. Now the mixed group of singers, who meet in Birstall, mainly sing acappella, without instrumental accompaniment, in the barbershop style.
The choir's 50th anniversary concert will feature both the male chorus and mixed voice chorus alongside two guest groups, The Light Fantastic and Limelight, an award-winning quartet who sing songs from Gershwin to the Beatles.
Ian Phillips is the current musical director and also one of the founders alongside his dad Roy. He spoke to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Leicester's Ady Dayman along with chairman John O’Malley.
