Over 80% of Halloween costumes for young children don’t meet safety standards
Adrian Simpson, Head of Policy at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents says he is “really shocked” at how unsafe some kids’ Halloween costumes are.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards carried out tests on 128 costumes for under-7s purchased from various online marketplaces.
Twenty-eight of the costumes did not meet flammability standards and 59 were found to have dangerous cords or drawstrings that posed a strangulation risk. Many costumes also lacked appropriate labelling, with 98 out of 128 failing to provide essential safety information.
Adrian urged parents to check the labels for any warnings in order to ensure their children’s safety at Halloween.
