Why Saoirse Ronan’s women’s safety comment went viral
The comments of actor Saoirse Ronan talking about women's safety on The Graham Norton Show have gone viral.
Ronan silenced her fellow male actors as they joked about using mobile phones as an everyday defensive weapon. That prompted cheers and applause in the studio and a wave of support on social media.
Newshour's Tim Franks asked women’s safety campaigner, Poppy Murray, why those 10 words uttered by the actor caused such an outpouring of social activity.
