Denis Lindridge set up a petition calling for the tree to be moved from its current location on Church Street to the Town Centre which has been signed by hundreds of residents.

Hartlepool council said having just received the petition they would need some time to consider it.

Given that plans for the Christmas lights switch on are well advanced they would be unable to relocate the tree this year, they are however happy to consider moving it to a new location from next year.
