"I've got a little, tiny part of my life back"
In 2023, two occupational therapists from Dorset Healthcare Trust, Lorna Farmer and Jordan Pace, identified that some of their service users expressed a strong emotional relationship to music.
For many of them, joining a choir or playing in a band would prove too emotionally challenging, due to the complex nature of their mental health conditions.
The result was an intervention group centered around music, where service users could play and write together in a safe and flexible environment, with people experiencing similar struggles.
The group meets on a weekly basis at Absolute Music in Bournemouth - a studio space used for recording and retail.
