The AA says there will be a record number of journeys by road this Christmas.

With all that extra use, it's important that motorways and A-roads are maintained to help keep people moving.

A vital but little-known aspect of that is planing; that's when a machine removes damaged road surfaces and readies it to be overlayed with tarmac.
