'Serious concerns' at local government proposals
Leicestershire County Council had asked to postpone the May county council elections.
Leaders of councils in Leicestershire and Rutland say they have 'serious concerns' over possible local government reorganisation in Leicestershire and Rutland.
Borough and district council leaders - as well as some MPs - have reacted with concern following County Hall's request to the government to delay local county council elections by a year while a new local council set-up is discussed.
Councillor Deborah Taylor spoke to the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ East Midlands politics show, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Leicester political reporter Tim Parker explained the implications, and Melton and Syston MP Ed Argar told us his concerns.
A statement from eight local council leaders said - 'We are open to exploring all options, but have not agreed any boundary changes, and are clear that any changes must be limited and balanced. We have written to the government to confirm that we are keen to work with them and that we expect our propositions to be taken seriously. There is simply too much at stake to have a change railroaded through.'
