Ding dong debate: Are Birkenhead’s bells too loud?
After more than a century of ringing every 15 minutes, the bells at Birkenhead Town Hall fell silent except for hourly chimes due to noise concerns.
However, following a public outcry and a petition signed by hundreds, Wirral Council has reinstated the quarter-hourly chimes with a softer sound.
The decision has sparked debate: are the bells a cherished tradition or a noisy nuisance?
