Disability charity raises concerns about benefits changes

PIP stands for Personal Independence payments, this helps those with long term illnesses or disabilities by providing them with monthly payments.

As part of welfare reforms, the Labour Government have announced that they plan to save £5 billion a year in benefits costs.

The PIP eligibility criteria will be tightened up from November 2026, potentially resulting in reduced payments for many.

It will become harder to qualify for the daily living component of Pip, which starts at £72.65 a week. There will be no change to the mobility component.

Lee Cairns from Peer Advice UK, a national charity based in Brinklow, claims the system is already difficult enough.
