Lower Thames Crossing plans approved
Plans for a new Lower Thames Crossing have been approved by the government. The largest road tunnel in the UK will cost £8.3 billion and has been 15 years in the making.
The 14.5-mile (23km) road would link Tilbury in Essex with Gravesend in Kent by two tunnels running underneath the River Thames.
