Abused by your child

The World At One's Sarah Montague explores the issue

We often hear about domestic violence between older family members, but what about a child attacking a parent?

Information about the extent of child on parent abuse is difficult to obtain, and parents whose children hurt them find accessing suitable support very difficult

The World At One's Sarah Montague talks to Claire, who details how problems with her son that started when he was very young which led to his imprisonment and her now having a lifetime restraining order against him.

We also hear from two other mothers - one whose ten-year-old son is autistic, has high levels of anxiety and can be violent, and another whose daughter has been violent and aggressive to her.

The World At One also explores some of the issues around Social Services and mental health support, speaking to social worker Al Coates, who has his own experience with facing violence from his children, and consultant clinical psychologist Andrew Newman who works with Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (Camhs).
