On the trail of the Essex witch trials
During the 15 and 1600s, Essex played a significant role in the persecution of suspected witches. More than one thousand people were accused of witchcraft, and many awaiting trial were imprisoned at Colchester Castle.
And now a new heritage trail is helping to throw light on this dark chapter of Essex history.
