Coventry artists celebrated at the Cathedral

Coventry Cathedral is hosting an exhibition of works by local artists, George Wagstaffe from Coventry and Michala Gyetvai from Warwickshire.

Coventry Cathedral is hosting an exhibition called All that Pain, All that Joy, All the Same..

The project is by two local artists, George Wagstaffe a sculptor from Coventry and Michala Gyvetia a textile artist from Warwickshire. The work looks at how the artists share common values with their chosen media. The exhibition will continue to be displayed at Coventry Cathedral until June 15th 2025.

This is the first time that either artist has exhibited at Coventry Cathedral.

George Wagstaffe was born during World War II and remembers the destruction caused in Coventry City by the Blitz.

Michala is a textile artist from Warwickshire, her work often encompasses landscapes, taking inspiration from historical painters, poets and composers.

George is best known in the city for his iconic pieces of public art, including The Phoenix, The Phoenix Tree, The Niad as well as his modern replica of the Coventry Cross.

George and Michala taught together at University in Coventry and Michala has been instrumental in some of George's later works including The Phoenix Tree, which took four years to build.

They have been talking to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ CWR presenter Natalie Graham.
