Suitcase full of love letters
Warwickshire man Ian Kempe was sorting out their belongings after his mother passed away. In a wardrobe he discovered a suitcase that his father had used whilst in the Royal Navy. The suitcase was packed with hundreds of letters from his parents Philip and Grace during World War Two. The letters tell the story of what it was like for a husband and wife to be separated during the war. Philip found out his wife had given to birth to 'Baby Ian' through a letter.
Some of the letters are being showcased in a exhibition to mark 80 years since VE Day with ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Local Radio at the National Memorial Arboretum. The exhibition will run from 3rd May until 16th November 2025.
