Metropolitan Cathedral now Grade I listed
Liverpool's Metropolitan Cathedral is England's largest Catholic Cathedral and it's now been awarded Grade One listed status, recognising it's a building of the highest architectural and historical interest.
The upgrading of its status from two to one acknowledges how the building transformed British cathedral design with its revolutionary centralised plan, which was a radical departure from traditional designs.
It dominates the Liverpool skyline and is visible for miles around.
Dominic Wilkinson is a member of the Cathedral's Art and Design Committee.
