'A family member stole £26,000 from my mother'
Ian, not his real name, heard that his elderly parents opened up their home in Stockton to allow a family member to stay and thought they were doing a kind favour.
However, unbeknown to them, that person was stealing money from their bank account and ISA.
Over a year, a total of £26,000 was stolen.
However thanks to a pilot ran by the Stockton charity - Safer Communities - 'Ian' was put in touch with a fraud advocate and that money has been returned to her.
That pilot has been so successful that since it launched, almost £290,000 has been recovered for victims and it's being expanded.
'Ian' spoke to Anna Snowdon and Amy Oakden finds out more about the support scheme from Dave Mead from Safer Communities.
