For David, Claudia revisits the years when the Brookfield herd was devastated by TB, with badgers seen by farmers as possible spreaders of infection. On two occasions, David spotted a badger - a protected species - grabbed his gun and shot it dead. The second killing led to a court appearance, a fine - and one of David's most memorable outbursts, when land agent Graham Ryder received the full force of his frustration. For Pip, Claudia recalls the moment when she told her parents she was pregnant - and revealed the name of the father, which prompts another explosion from David.
