Singer Lily Allen shares her views and memories about London with Robert Elms.
Lily Allen is an English singer, songwriter, and actress.
Born in Hammersmith in 1985, her father is the actor Keith Allen, her mother a film producer called Alison Mary Owen. She has two sisters and a brother, Alfie Allen, who is also an actor.
Lily’s musical career began in 2005 when she began publishing her music on social media. It's popularity resulted in her being signed by label Regal Recordings and got her played on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 1. Her 2006 debut single, 'Smile', reached number one. Allen's debut album, 'Alright, Still' was met with positive critical reception, peaked at number two on the Albums Chart, and sold over 2.6 million copies worldwide. It also saw her nominated for a Grammy.
Three years later in 2009, the second of her four albums, 'It's Not Me, It's You' also went to number one, featuring memorable singles 'The Fear' and 'Not Fair'.
In 2008, she hosted her own talk show, 'Lily Allen and Friends', on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Three before launching her own record label in 2011. In 2021, she made her West End debut in the new play' 2:22 A Ghost Story', for which she received a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress.
