40 years on from the release of Back to the Future, co-writer and producer Bob Gale says the first draft of the script looked very different.

The film tells the story of Marty McFly, a 17-year-old high school student, played by Michael J Fox, who is accidentally sent 30 years into the past in a time-travelling DeLorean car.

Bob Gale tells Josephine McDermott the original plans for the time machine as well as how the movie was rejected 40 times.
