Eddie Marsan, Actor

Actor Eddie Marsan shares his views and memories about London with Robert Elms.

Eddie Marsan is an actor with a career stretching more than 30 years.

He was born in 1968 in Stepney, and spent his formative years in Bethnal Green.

Eddie’s family were proudly working class; his father a lorry driver, and his mother a school dinner lady. After leaving school at 16, Eddie initially became an apprenticeship printer, before beginning his career as an actor.

Since then, he’s had a prolific career, and his ability to play troubled, sometimes violent characters has made him a staple on stage and screen. His notable roles have also included Inspector Lestrade in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes adaptation, and Amy Winehouse’s father Mitch, in the recent biopic ‘Back to Black’.

Eddie Marsan reveals his favourite haunts, memories, pet hates and everything in between with Robert Elms. This interview was originally broadcast in December 2011.
