The legal battle over an election dead heat

The losing candidate, Reform’s Elizabeth Williams, has taken the result to the High Court.

The battle for the Worcestershire County Council seat was as dramatic as you can get. The seat for the Littletons division was won by Green candidate Hannah Robson, with her name being drawn at random from a box, following both leading contenders receiving exactly 889 votes.

In the petition, Mrs Williams stated her belief the result was fraudulent and was interfered with. She argued she had not been allowed time at the count to seek independent legal advice and had not felt able to witness the entire process.

James Pearson reports.

Following a High Court hearing last week, Hannah Robson says she cannot comment on a live High Court case, but she said in a statement 'while the case is being heard, I am getting on with the job I was elected to do, representing the people of the Littletons.'

Wychavon District Council was the organisation in charge of overseeing the election of this specific county council seat. It has said it's confident the election 'was delivered substantially within the law and says it will present its case to the court at a future date.'

West Mercia Police have told us an investigation into the result found no criminal offences had taken place.
