Lugg ‘worst in country’ for biocide chemicals
The Rivers Trust says water quality data from the Herefordshire river, for seven key hazardous chemicals, is 'alarming'. Those chemicals include fungicides, a herbicide and insecticides.
Hilary Currie is a volunteer 'citizen tester', who explains how her daily tests shows the extent of pollutions of feeder rivers. The River Lugg flows from Powys to Presteigne, through Aymestry, Leominster, Bodenham, Moreton, Hereford, Lugwardine and Mordiford.
Tom Edwards reports from Cheaton Brook in Leominster.
The government said it was committed to tackling all sources of pollution and cleaning up the country's waterways.
In all, 119 sites were tested across England and at least one of the biocides was detected in 113 of them.
