That's a UN body's assessment of Haiti's capital - which has very high rates of sexual violence.
Cuts to US aid have compounded the crisis in Haiti, leaving already-vulnerable communities without food, healthcare, or protection from violence - particularly women and children. In the past six months, more than 4,000 people have been killed – that’s nearly half the total number recorded last year - and more than one million people have been forced to flee their homes. Since the assassination of president Jovenel Moïse in 2021, the Caribbean island nation has been engulfed in a wave of gang violence.
