Alice Draws The Line
Meet the Herefordshire calligrapher and artist whose designs criss-cross the country, taking inspiration from the countryside outside her window and The Shipping Forecast.
Alice Savery, a former Hereford College of Arts student, serves up an art and design masterclass for the radio, creating incredible books, mugs, bags, greetings cards, masks, stickers, calendars and more, all with exceptional calligraphy and drawing, from her studio in Brampton Bryan.
For Alice, her creative spark began as a hobby and a new year's resolution. Her zest for designing was honed alongside a love of forestry and teaching, which became her life when she found work at Forest Schools. But a change in circumstances led Alice to create a body of work that was ripe for moulding in to her own and finding fans across the country.
She tells Phillip Stoneman how she's given a polite two fingers to her sceptical schools career advisor, who doubted that a life with pens in hand could be a money-spinner.
