Transcript:
This is an Audio Introduction to the 2025 season of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Proms. It contains information about the Audio Described Performances for this season. There is a separate recording containing accessibility information for the shows, including where to collect headsets, and a description of the Royal Albert Hall.
For every Audio Described show, there will be an additional live Audio Introduction fifteen minutes before the performance is due to begin, as well as description throughout, where appropriate. The live introductions will provide an overview of the visual elements of each prom, including descriptions of key performers and the layout of the stage and orchestra.
This year, the Audio Described proms are:
The Traitors Prom on Saturday the 26th of July. There are two performances of this prom, one at 3pm and a second at 7:30pm, each with one interval. The Traitors Prom will be hosted by Claudia Winkleman, who will introduce the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Singers, and special-guest vocalists, conducted by Karen Nà Bhroin, to bring music from the show to life.
The Relaxed Prom: The Planets on Sunday the 10th of August. There will be one performance at 11am, which will be roughly fifty minutes long, with no interval. The prom is presented by Linton Stephens. The National Youth Orchestra, conducted by Tess Jackson, will play excerpts from John Williams’ Star Wars soundtrack, Caroline Shaw’s The Observatory, and Gustav Holst’s The Planets. This performance is designed to suit those who feel more comfortable attending concerts in an informal environment, and there will be a relaxed attitude to audience noise and movement.
The Aurora Prom, featuring a presentation and performance of Shostakovich’s Fifth by Heart. There is one performance on the 16th of August at 7pm, and another on the 17th of August at 11am. Each will have one interval. In the first half, Conductor Nicholas Collon and the Aurora Orchestra will be joined by actors to explore the context that influenced Shostakovich’s musical creation. After the interval, the orchestra will play the symphony all the way through from memory.
The Cbeebies Prom: A Magical Bedtime Story, on Monday the 25th of August. There are two performances, one at 12:30pm and a second at 3:30pm, each with no interval. Cbeebies presenters will share a magical musical tale, with music played by Sinfonia Smith Square, conducted by Ellie Slorach. As with the Relaxed Prom above, there will be an informal attitude to audience noise and movement.
