Big Has, Chef and TV Presenter
Chef Hasan Semay shares his London loves and loathes with Robert Elms.
Hasan ‘Big Has’ Semay was born and raised in Edmonton in north London. His mum is a Londoner, and his Dad is Turkish Cypriot. At 6 ft 6 it’s not hard to see where he got his nickname.
His career as a chef began in 2011, after he graduated from Jamie Oliver’s 15 programme. He spent the next 10 years cooking in high end kitchens all over London, until Covid hit and he found himself without a job. During lockdown he took to cooking on Youtube (in his slightly scruffy back garden) and his charisma in front of the camera started to be noticed.
Now, he’s a judge on Young Masterchef, and regularly appears on Saturday Kitchen and Sunday Brunch. Has is also the author of two books - Big Has HOME, and the newly released Smoke and Seasoned Bread.
