Good morning. Cornwall Council have voted to start a petition urging the government to grant Cornwall 鈥渆qual status to Wales and Scotland鈥 within the United Kingdom.
More than 10,000 people have already signed the petition, so the government will have to respond to it. However, if the petition is signed by more than 100,000 people by September 11th, a debate will be held about it in Parliament.
And, if the proposal were successful, Cornwall would become the United Kingdom鈥檚 fifth nation.
Leader of the council, Leigh Frost, said that national status would give Cornwall 鈥渢he ability to shape our future鈥.
However, many politicians, from all parties, think that devolution is a 鈥渟tep too far鈥 if it is not supported by a majority of the public.

Cornwall Council is seeking the opinions of the public about its plan to preserve and improve our network of public rights of way over the next ten years.
Currently, there are about 4,500 kilometers of footpaths, bridleways and byways across Cornwall, so the council has launched a survey to find out how they are used by the public.
In the survey, members of the public can say which rights of way they use, or whether there is something preventing them from using them.
Residents, businesses and visitors can take part in the survey until September 28th.
Councillor Loic Rich said, "It's important to hear from as many people as possible so we can improve our public rights of ways for one and all."

A new road to Mousehold football pitch has been completed in time for the new season.
Supporters of the club can now reach Interiora Trungle Parc from the B3315 instead of using a narrow, pitted lane through the village of Paul.
The club was helped to raise the money by Prince William, Duke of Cornwall, who set up a group of businesses to fund the entire project.
Project leader Simon Taylor thanked Prince William and said that the new road would reduce the amount of traffic through Paul and improve the residents鈥 lives.
The road was open in time for the first match of the season, against Bridgwater United in the FA Cup, which was won by Mousehole, 4-0.
And that鈥檚 all from me for this week. Until next time!
