King's Cross: Why the future's looking bright for 'Mecca of grassroots basketball in London'
Argyle Court desperately needs renovation, but the basketball community won't give up.
To those who know, Argyle Court in King's Cross is one of the hubs of grassroots basketball in London, with the Argyle Kings group even hailing it as a 'Mecca' for basketball in the capital. But, after years of use, the court is looking decidedly tatty, and by anyone's standards is in need of renovation.
So, when a member of the Argyle Kings - Anthony 'TJ' Hibbert - passed away, the group decided it was a good opportunity to upgrade the court and include a tribute to TJ.
First, they won the support of the Friends of the Park group, then Argyle Kings then got backing from governing body Basketball England. They secured funding too, and claimed all that was standing in the way of the redevelopment was a failure to engage Camden Council.
