Andi Oliver, Chef and Broadcaster

Andi Oliver shares her views and memories about London with Robert Elms.

Andi Oliver is a chef, broadcaster, and former singer with a rich and varied career. Food and music have at the forefront throughout.

She was born in London to Antiguan parents, and brought up in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. She has one daughter, Miquita, who is also a TV presenter, and she lives in east London.

In the 1980s she was a member of the post-punk band Rip Rig + Panic, alongside Neneh Cherry, before turning her hand to broadcasting in the 90s. She presented the cult show Baadas TV with Ice T, covered Glastonbury for the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½, and had a stint on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio London.

At the same time, food and hospitality have also been a defining feature of her career. She ran the Birdcage Pub on Columbia Road, and later had her own restaurant at The Jackdaw and Star pub in ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½rton.

Now, Andi is a regular face on screen on Saturday Kitchen, and as the host of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s Great British Menu.
