Historic canal locks 'finally' re-open
The country's the longest flight of locks at Tardebigge have been described as 'the M5 and M6 of their day'. There are 30 locks on a stretch of the route only two-and-a-quarter miles long.
Neil Bedford from the Canal & River Trust tells Felicity Kvesic how the route forms a key part of the West Midlands' canal network, and how the closure for emergency repairs saw the locks - and the popular Stourport ring - closed from March 2025.
Built in the early nineteenth century, the lock flight is Grade II listed, meaning repairs included 20,000 bricks and original coping stones.
