Hereford's Commercial Road: When will it re-open?

Roadworks on one of the main arteries through the city have dragged on for six weeks, with many traders telling the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ they have not been told when the works will finish, and that the uncertainty is costing them thousands of pounds.

In July, a sinkhole appeared in the road, and the route was partially closed by Welsh Water.

Many independent businesses say business has been 'dead' since, and are calling for compensation.

Tom Edwards reports.

When the work started, Welsh Water told traders they were aiming to finish the job in two weeks, but a second sinkhole then appeared nearby, which is why the work has dragged on.

On 12th August they said they might need another five weeks to finish everything. A fresh statement given to the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ from Welsh Water apologises to the businesses affected, and says the organisation is 'on track' to finish some time in September 2025.
