The Elizabethan manor house saved from demolition

Narborough Hall was saved from the brink of ruin by two Leicestershire teachers.

Narborough Hall in Leicestershire is an Elizabethan manor house believed to date from 1596 and constructed by James Meade, a local landowner.

Built from distinctive local pink granite, by the 1970’s the house was in sad decline, with the threat of demolition hanging over it.

It was only saved from the brink of ruin by the intervention of two Leicestershire teachers, Paul and Wendy Broadley, who bought it in 1976 and spent years on its extensive renovation to bring it back to its former glory.

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Leicester’s Ben Jackson went to find out more from the current owner, Paul and Wendy’s daughter Sophie Edwards.

Produced by Pete Wardman.
