Micky Flanagan, Comedian

Comedian Micky Flanagan shared his views and memories about London with Robert Elms.

The comedian Micky Flanagan is one of the most recognisable Londoners on television.

He was born in Whitechapel in 1962, and grew up in Bethnal Green.

Before becoming a comedian he worked as a fish porter, a furniture maker and window cleaner. He also trained as a teacher but decided not to pursue it as a career, later describing the experience as "the unhappiest year of my life”.

In his 30 years as a comedian he’s toured the UK four times, done hundreds of stand-up gigs, and appeared on Mock the Week, A League of Their Own and 8 Out of 10 Cats.

Micky Flanagan revealed his favourite haunts, memories, pet hates and everything in between with Robert Elms.

This interview was first broadcast in March 2011.
