Does ethnicity matter in ads?
5 Live listeners tell Nicky Campbell what they think.
Reform UK MP Sarah Pochin has apologised for her comments on Saturday about TV advertising. She said "it drives me mad when I see adverts full of black people, full of Asian people", adding that "It doesn't reflect our society" and "your average white person, average white family" is not "represented anymore". She later apologised, saying her comments were "phrased poorly", but insisted that advertising isn't proportionate. The MP for Runcorn and Runcorn and Helsby cited a Channel 4 study saying 51% of adverts in 2022 featured black people. The Health Secretary Wes Streeting called her language "racist". Nicky Campbell asked 5 Live listeners if ethnicity matters in ads.
