Irish Businesses Prepare For No Deal Brexit

The latest business and finance news from around the world, on the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½.

On Monday, UK Prime Minister Theresa May will make a statement to MPs setting out how she intends to proceed with Britain’s exit from the European Union. Labour's Sir Keir Starmer said the PM should rule out a no-deal Brexit. One of the EU countries most affected if Britain does leave without a deal is Ireland. Mark Kennedy is Managing Partner of the Mazars accountancy firm in Ireland. He explains some of the potential business impacts, and mitigation efforts being put in place.
Monday also sees the release of China's latest GDP figures, and they will be even more closely watched than usual, as they are expected to confirm the country’s growth is slowing. Independent economist Michael Hughes gives his reading on what this means for the global economy.
Then, we’ll hear from Adrian Shatku, chief executive of the global telecom company Unifi. He’ll talk about the global growth of the Voice over Internet Protocol, why the EU and US should ban Huawei and the challenges facing telecom companies in Africa.

Former Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn has asked for bail from his two-month detention on charges of financial fraud, charges he has denied. This follows a joint investigation by Nissan and Mitsubishi which they have said revealed Ghosn received "improper payments" totalling $8.9m from a joint venture between the carmakers. A board meeting is expected this week to see Ghosn replaced as Renault chairman. Jim Holder, Editorial director of Whatcar.com, explains the future of the global car alliance.

And finally, with the threat of climate change looming, and growing ambivalence about whether the world can meet carbon emissions reduction targets to limit global warming, many people are searching for new solutions. But some people think they’ve already cracked it, as well as the solution to world hunger, simply by growing plants in salt-water.
