Trade War Talks Under Way in Beijing
As US-China trade talks restart in Beijing, we gauge the health of the Chinese economy.
US-China trade talks have restarted in Beijing, but what's driving the American delegation? We're joined by Eva Hampl, Senior Director at the United States Council for International Business. Also in the show, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim has made the surprise announcement that he is stepping down after six years in the post, though before he was expected to go. We speak with Scott Morris, senior fellow at the Center for Global Development and director of the US Development Policy Initiative, on Dr. Kim's legacy and the future of the World Bank. And we have a report from Serbia on the impact of Chinese investment in the country. Also in the programme, the UK parliament is preparing to debate and then vote on Theresa May's withdrawal agreement for Britain to leave the EU. Jonathan Ford from the Financial Times discusses whether the proposal may open the door for EU firms to use state aid to lure enterprises or jobs out of the UK, without Britain being able to do the same in reverse. And we'll also have a regular view on the US markets with Peter Jankovskis of Oakbrook Investments in Chicago.Plus our regular workplace commentator Alison Green tells us whether passive aggression is a sensible strategy for dealing with problems at the office.
