How LGBT workplace rights have evolved

We focus on the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the workplace.

We focus on the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the workplace. It's the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York, which are seen by many as the start of the modern gay rights movement. John O'Brien was a customer of the Stonewall Inn that night in 1969 and recalls what sparked the protest. Beck Bailey is director of the workplace equality programme at the Human Rights Campaign in Washington, and tells us how gay rights in the workplace have evolved since then, when homosexuality was outlawed in 49 of 50 US states. Frank Mugisha, executive director of Sexual Minorities Uganda explains how difficult life still is for LGBT people in his country today. And Maeve DuVally, managing director of communications for the investment bank Goldman Sachs, discusses how it was for her to come out as transgender last month. Also in the programme, there's new tension between Switzerland and the EU after talks on their future relationship including trade ended in deadlock. Our correspondent in Berne explains the background. Plus as the Glastonbury Festival gets underway in south-west England, our reporter looks at how financially successful music festivals can be.
