Unconfirmed reports suggest another four could be handed over by Hamas on Wednesday

The bodies of four more dead hostages have been returned to Israel, with unconfirmed reports suggesting another four could be handed over by Hamas on Wednesday. Israel is now reported to be reopening the Gaza border crossing with Egypt as originally scheduled.

The World Meteorological Organisation has warned that carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere, a key driver of global warming, reached a new high in 2024. It says the rate of increase in levels of the gas has tripled since the nineteen sixties. The UN agency blames continued emissions of carbon dioxide from human activities and a surge from wildfires, as well as a reduction in the amount of gas absorbed by the world's oceans, soils and forests.
