France is preparing to join the UK, Canada and Australia in recognising a Palestinian state, as UN talks get underway in New York. The Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel would react to Sunday's coordinated announcements. The UK has urged Israel not to annex parts of the West Bank in retaliation.
