The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has denied that his country was committing genocide in Gaza or starving its people. In a fiery speech at the UN General Assembly, he blamed Hamas for preventing Gazans fleeing, and of stealing their food. UN sanctions are likely to be re-imposed on Iran at midnight after Britain, France, and Germany accused Tehran of violating a 2015 deal aimed at preventing it from developing a nuclear weapon.
