This week an Eritrean government delegation arrived in Ethiopia, an event unimaginable even a month ago. The two countries clashed in a border war in 1998, and despite a ceasefire the standoff has continued over the border town of Badme. New laws in Tanzania and Egypt have imposed restrictions, and sometimes fees, on the use of social media. Similar laws are proposed in Uganda. Governments say it tackles "fake news", critics say that it curbs free speech. The Tang Paradise park in northern China recently made headlines by offering women weighing more than 62kg free entry. The promotion was intended to honour a famous Tang Dynasty beauty, Yang Guifei, who was famously curvaceous.
