'Towards a common future', live from Westminster Abbey in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
This Celebration of the Commonwealth is Britain's largest annual multi-cultural and inter-faith gathering with performances by choirs, dancers and musicians from across the vastly different cultures of this unique international institution. During the event Her Majesty’s special Commonwealth Day message will be delivered. There will also be a statement from Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland as well as leading global figures about the importance of the family of nations which links the governments, people and institutions of 53 countries.
Among the 2,000-strong congregation gathered in this historic building which has seen the crowning of kings and queens, will be a congregation of 800 children from schools and youth groups. The Service this year takes the theme, ‘Towards a common future,’ ensuring that the Commonwealth’s 2.4 billion citizens benefit from an institution that is responsive to global challenges and delivers a more prosperous, secure, sustainable and fair future for everyone, particularly its young people.
