Victoria Kimani

DJ Edu talks to Victoria Kimani, the singer he calls the "queen" of his homeland, Kenya.

This week’s special guest is Victoria Kimani. One of Kenya’s most successful female artists, DJ Edu calls her the “queen” of his homeland.

Their conversation is wide ranging and revealing. Following the release of her new single Sexy, does Kimani believe female artists in Africa have to be sexy to succeed? Does she choose to present herself in the sexy way she does? Why does she promote brands such as Gucci and Balenciaga in her songs? Is the Victoria Kimani the world sees the real Victoria Kimani?

She confides (in a TIA exclusive!) that she is de-colonising her name and dropping ‘Victoria’, wanting to be known simply as Kimani. She also says, despite her considerable success, that she feels her career has only just begun.

Also in the programme, DJ Edu’s 10 in 10 – ten hot tracks from ten different African countries all in ten minutes, and a classic track from Africa’s super-rich musical archive.
