Winky D and Santrinos Raphael
DJ Edu chats to Winky D, one of the most popular musicians in Zimbabwe for more than a decade, and Togolese star Santrinos Raphael.
Winky D has been among the most popular musicians in Zimbabwe for over a decade. A pioneer of the “Zimdancehall” scene, fusing reggae and dancehall, some of his songs have a humorous side while others focus on the serious problems he sees in Zimbabwean society. He talks to DJ Edu about his latest album Njema – which translates as handcuffs – and explains why the pandemic is hitting the country’s musicians hard in the pocket.
Togo’s Santrinos Raphael is one of the hottest acts in Francophone West Africa right now, picking up awards and new fans. He tells This Is Africa why he is a sucker for a good old fashioned love song.
