President Donald Trump received a hero’s welcome when he landed in Israel this week, following his central role in brokering the Gaza ceasefire and hostage exchange deal. During his whirlwind trip, he also flew to the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh, where he declared ‘an historical turning point’ to the gathered world leaders. State Department correspondent Tom Bateman was on board Air Force One with the President.

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s International Editor, Jeremy Bowen, considers a longer view of the conflict. While 7 October 2023 and the two years of war which have followed are certainly milestones to match 1948 and 1967, the history of the region suggests that Trump's goal of peace in the Middle East may lie some distance ahead.

More than 90% of Haiti's capital city, Port au Prince, is under the control of armed gangs. Entire neighbourhoods now lie deserted after gun battles and mass attacks on people's homes drove residents out. Many of them now live tented camps - and only a few can find refuge. Jasmin Dyer visited a safe house for women and children who've survived some of the worst of the violence.

The British territory of St Helena, in the south Atlantic, might look idyllic: remote, lush, and community-oriented, far from the woes of the wider world. But it's also emptying out, as young people in particular seek their fortunes elsewhere. Beth Rose found an island worrying about its long-term future.
