Amadeus

Massamba Amadeus is a Senegalese musician who is consciously following in the footsteps of Cheikh Lo and Youssou Ndour, and wants to create legacy like theirs.

Massamba Amadeus is a Senegalese musician who is consciously following in the footsteps of Cheikh Lo, Youssou Ndour and other greats from his country, and who has named himself after Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Amadeus’s first hit was Boulma Sagané, released when he was still a student at university in 2020. But as he tells This Is Africa, he already has his eye on his legacy and wants his music to endure like that of his musical heroes.

He says that while it’s great getting big numbers on streaming and social platforms, he considers it his responsibility to guide and educate his young fans as the griots of old would have done, and to preserve the rich musical heritage of his forebears.
