Clarinet virtuoso Martin Frost lends his artistry to a lively jazz concerto written by Artie Shaw, one of the finest clarinettists of the 20th century. Just a few months before Shaw鈥檚 concerto was included in the score of a Fred Astaire Hollywood comedy, Sergei Rachmaninov completed his final masterpiece, the Symphonic Dances, on the opposite coast of the United States. Both works are infused with the spirit of dance: boogie-woogie in the Shaw, waltz in the Rachmaninov.
