It’s a lot of exercise. My mum, even to this day, is really fit and she’s had ten kids. She used to rock us forever. I don’t seem to have that kind of time. I’m not even going to attempt that with my kids and I’ve only got two which is quite enough.
Fufulde is a language which is fast disappearing in Nigeria. There’s been a lot of inter-marrying with the Hausas and their language is proving to be a stronger language. That’s why I chose to sing a lullaby in Fufulde because it’s preserving part of my culture which brings back very warm memories. I sing it to my children with the hope they’ll be able to carry it forward in their time. At the moment they don’t understand what I’m singing but I’m hoping in time they will.
