It all started with a challenge. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Leeds all_2gether_now project came to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 3 and said that in the Harehills, Burmantofts and Chapeltown areas of Leeds they really did have the 'world on our streets'.
We challenged them to back their claims by finding a variety of musicians playing a diverse range of world music worthy of broadcast- could they really do it?
The end result became our latest one hour World on your Street programme, presented by Liz Kershaw, broadcast on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Leeds, and available here on the website.
The music includes uplifting Cuban dance tunes, bhangra, an Irish hornpipe, music from Kurdistan, and Leed's own 'urban fusion'.
All_2gether_now is a unique project which could be described as the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s first broadcasting club. Local people in the Harehills and Burmantofts areas of Leeds are taught broadcasting and web skills and see their work broadcast and published by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½.
